Project AWARE Success at DEMA 2015

Friday, November 13th, 2015

Dive Against Debris Workshops DEMA 2015The annual DEMA Show put on by the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association is more than just a scuba diving trade show – it’s the dive industry’s event of the year.

With diving equipment manufacturers, training and certification organizations, apparel producers, travel companies and philanthropies from across the globe in attendance, it’s a chance for all members of the dive industry to connect, collaborate and innovate.

Project AWARE has been honored to attend the DEMA show alongside PADI with great success in past years, and this year was no exception.

As we’re just now catching our breath after a whirlwind week of travel, meetings and Dive Against Debris training workshops, we’d like to take a moment to say, THANK YOU!

Thank you to all of our supporters – dive centers, scuba instructors, ocean enthusiasts and marine conservation advocates – you helped make our presence at the 2015 DEMA show an incredible success.

Not only did we enjoy meeting many new members of our dive community in the Project AWARE booth, we were absolutely blown away by the attendance at our first-ever Dive Against Debris training workshops. Close to 200 of you attended! You asked pertinent data-reporting questions and worked together to find solutions. You listened intently and learned techniques and best practices for reporting more frequent, more accurate Dive Against Debris data. We shared our Dive Against Debris action kits with you so that you now have not only the knowledge, but also the tools to get the work done. We’re grateful to have shared that experience with you, and cannot wait to see your Dive Against Debris efforts expand in the coming year. You are our newest Dive Against Debris ambassadors.

Our community of empowered citizen scientists is growing, and now more than ever, we’re positively impacting our ocean environments through Dive Against Debris. Thank you to our dedicated community that makes this possible.

Activate your inner citizen scientist! Participate in Dive Against Debris today and join the growing number of Dive Against Debris Instructors.

As PADI prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016, the organization is expanding beyond scuba diving to offer training in one of the fastest growing dive industry segments – freediving. Continuing the core business practice of delivering first in class instructional courses, the PADI Freediver program will debut in November at DEMA Show 2015 in Orlando, Florida, USA.

“The PADI Freediver program provides PADI Members with additional revenue generating opportunities by allowing them to expand their course offerings and reach a younger demographic,” says Mark Spiers, Vice President, Sales, Field Services, Marketing & Business Development at PADI EMEA. “PADI Freediver will also allow PADI Retail and Resort members to increase their equipment sales through a whole new category of product offerings”.

The PADI Freediver program is complete with student materials and instructional tools that follow the PADI educational philosophy, which makes it easy for qualified PADI Professionals to quickly start teaching. The course will feature quality, tablet-based training materials so students can access PADI Freediver Touch from the convenience of their tablets with or without an internet connection.  Like all PADI courses, the program was bred from first-hand experience as industry experts and competitive freedivers played a critical role in its development.

For more information regarding the PADI Freediver program, contact your PADI regional manager or sales consultant.
